Story
Elthlead was the game series created by NCS/Masaya in the late 1980s that paved the way for the Langrisser series. It introduced the world of El Sallia, the conflict between the humans (defended and led by King Elthlead) and the prince of darkness, Böser (the leader of the demons).
Set in northern El Sallia along the Rall river just north of Baldea, the game's campaign established much of the geography of the continent that would play into Langrisser I and later titles. This first chapter of the Elthlead story follows one of the king's early campaigns against Böser.
Unlike the Langrisser series, this game does not use an SRPG style engine and is more focused on gameplay than a storyline. The gameplay itself is like a game of Chess, except with diagonal movements (similar to early versions of Koei's Nobunaga series). However, like Langrisser, the terrain may affect the mobility and combat advantage of some units.
History of Elthlead can be considered the most complete version of the Elthlead wars, and the game includes all modes from the previous entries in the series (Campaign Mode is from Elthlead, Scenario Mode and Creation Mode are from Crest of Gaia).
